Google - Reviews

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Really speaking, i’m not the fittest person to review a big name like Google. Since the beginning of my internet activity, and infact much before than that, I heard the name “Google” who would provide quality search results. The name was pretty easy to remember and the interface was not at all junky and finally production of high quality search results, this all lead me to become a fan of Google, almost a blind fan.

May be  most of the visitors/webmasters have exhibited trust and loyalty towards Google for production of quality search results since its inception as a search engine giant.

However, as soon as the internet becomes a bigger space with lots of money involved in it, in the name of SEO, a lot of webmasters tried to exploit the search results by adopting unfair means. So, the task of the search engines are gradually becoming pretty difficult. Infact Google has declared a war against the internet spammers or SEO techniques that try to befool their crawler.

In the name of doing so, Google undertakes updates from time to time, and with their updates, some sites find a higher place and someone goes to the bottom or even loose their position in Google index.

The lastest update, BigDaddy, seems to hit the indexing maximum and that has raised lot s of voices from all corners.

I am not so confident how will you interpret this statistics, but I can see Google at #3 with MSN at #2 in the Alexa rank of top 500 websites. Also while comparing to MSN, it shows a gradually declining traffic.

Few, I’m not quite sure about the number, webmasters have declared to leave Google for its unstability. The broken site: operator over the past few weeks was also a cause of worry for most of the webmasters having hyphenated domain names in url.

The big “G” is definitely going through a tough time.

How to

Saturday, June 24th, 2006

Just now i googled for the result of Mexico-Argentina match, and found this one as the #1 listing

http://www.google.com/ig?source=wcob

At the bottom of that page, you can see link to a Wiki

wikihow.com

It contains a very interesting topic, how to contact a celebrity. It provides the Dos and Do Nots while contacting a celebrity, where to get the contact information of that person. It suggests you to search that person’s personal website, forums, local libraries to locate the contact information. Then you should write a letter to him/her which must not be too personal/offenssive as it is more likely to be viewed by many people. Also you need to provide a Self-addressed envelop to get a quick reply….

I really have never attempted to contact a celebrity in that style, but if you want to do so, you must go on for a quick check.

The site also relates different other celebrity related how-to.

A Strange Doctor

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

This is the story i heard from one of my friends just today about a doctor who spends most of his time on Richshaw, yes, guessed correctly, he does not like to have his own car, so rickshaw seems to be the best vehicle on the earth on which he can rely the most.

That Doctor has a lot of stories adhered to his famous name already.

One day my friend went on to have a check-up, fifteen to twenty other patients were stranding in queue for that Doctor. Dr. Bhadra ( name changed ) callded on my friend who happens to be one of the respected persons in that locality, offered him snacks and asked him to follow with two diaries in his hand.

Leaving behind all the patients waiting in his chamber, Dr. Bhadra got up to his favorite rickshaw, my friend sat by his side, and he opened the diary and started to recite poetries  he had written last night. It was not less than a one hour when he realised that he was late for his chamber.

Domain or sub-domain hosting

Monday, June 19th, 2006

This is for Newbies, veterans please skip this article.

When i tried out my first website,as a starter, i really did not bother much for domain/ sub domain hostings and all, what i was needed, a free webhost to test my scripts.

I found one, it offered me a sub-domain hosting in the form mywebsite.hostname.com, it worked to test run  my scripts but the problem arose when i entered the second part of the life of an Webmaster, i.e. Site Promotion.

I found few reputed directories, refused to accept the url, being hosted in a sub-domain.

Also, i got plenty of suggestions from experienced webmasters for try using my own domain name and not a sub-domain name, as it becomes difficult to get good ranking in search engine with a sub-domian for competitive keywords.

I also gradually realised few more cause of worries and frustration. My host went down for few days. Though the site was hosted for experimentation, but it got few repeat visitors since its beginning and I thought that it was gone forever.

So, anytime, your host decides to stop extending hosting support, you have no alternative but to shut your site down!

I, therefore, strongly recommend you all to go for your own domain name, hardly costs few dollars for a whole year, and better seeking for a free webhost that will allow Domain hosting, if you can’t afford to pay the hosting charges.
Hope that helped.
