Blog comments - Risk factors

Friday, July 21st, 2006

Thanks to that new user in WMW forum for posting this link.

That user employed automated comments posting software to post comments on his behalf in different blogs. He managed to get as many as 3000 links within a short span of three months and got the result that is the most deserving one in this case. His website has received a google ban.

As reported by many experienced web publishers, “Google has NEVER condoned automated blog comment posting (spamming)” , so that website will probably not find a place in Google index anymore.

But a post in Search Engine Journal suggest that the blog concerned may even be penalised.
You can see the original post here.

And a discussion in this regard in Search Engine Journal.

And to conclude:

THINK TWICE BEFORE EMPLOYING AUTOMATED LINK BUILDING SOFTWARES TO INCREASE YOUR LINK POPULARITY.

A new meta tag - NOODP

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

Is not Google showing its some sort of distrust on ODPs

Earlier sometimes it used information available in the ODP to get the description of your webpages. And you could do little about that. Particularly it is not good to see the same old description when you continue to change the content of your webpages because that is the information still sticking in the ODP. It has been discussed a lot of time in different forums that ODPs do not update or refresh as frequently as the websites listed thereon change.
But now you can easily tell the crawler not to use the information from ODP.
META NAME=”ROBOTS” CONTENT=”NOODP”

To specifically direct GoogleBOT, you need to use a meta tag like

META NAME=”GOOGLEBOT” CONTENT=”NOODP”

Though it appears that Google will continue to use description from ODP by default.

Sid’s Blog is now PR4

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Do not really know whether a post like this is ethical or not, but i just can’t resist myself from announcing the fact that this blog is now PR4 and some of the deep links have got PR5 after the latest Google PR update. I am more than just delighted.

I must acknowledge that this blog would not have been materialised but for Hedir. I came to Hedir nearly four months ago to submit my URL, and i noticed a one liner text link Get a Free Blog!

And ” We serve ads on your blog. 80% of time the ad is yours, 20% of time it’s ours.” line as written thereon just pumped me up a little bit to give it a try, atleast there is no loss if there is no gain at all.

I started blogging, that time Lakhya did a lot of hard work to create the FREE blog for me within a very short time.

I started posting with few non-sense threads and this was my first post.

I was amazed to see a reply from ramdon, thanks random, your comments was just the starting torque.

Then onwards, whenever i’ve found anything interesting, i came up here to make a post. It was helpful for me in two ways. I need not struggle hard to get the content for the blog and also i could use those posts for future reference. I really do not know how many of you have actually been benefited from my small effort, but i’m personally immensely benifited as it helped me a lot to remember important weblinks, SEO tools, scripts etc.

Whenever i posted a link here, i got a good number of visitors from the Hedir Community, few other forums and also few search engine visitors. People whose comments have made this blog more lively and more than that boosts my energy level to be more enterprising includes Google Junky, Redhex, Adit, Amir mahmoudi, Josh and few others. These people have spent their valuable time in reading my posts and offered their invaluable comments. I appreciate without them this blog would not have come up to this point.

While reviewing my posts in this blog, i’ve found a percentage of the total posts need be more informative, and i apologise strongly for making such posts. At that moment, after reading an interesting article/news, i thought it requires a promotion and made those posts in a hurry. But i know, atleast Redhex is not going to spare my mistakes, and thanks a lot Redhex for your open comments. It helps me a lot in correcting my mistakes.

The blog as well as this Sid would not have been online but for my elder brother who keeps me motivating at times when i uesd to get frustrated a lot.

I appreciate there is nothing new or special about getting a PR4 or PR5 like that and many of my visitors must have websites/blogs with higher PRs. Still i found it quite encouraging as i really did nothing special to get IBLs and increase PR, hardly i have submitted links in directories and similar other stuff. Also i was not able to create a bunch of pages for want of time.
If this post looks very much emotional, i am extremely sorry for that but with whom to share this joy but for you, the people from Hedir community, from few forums and the visitors of this blog.

I wish you’ll remain supportive and active in this blog as you have done so far with great attention.
Thanks a lot.

Sid.

Terrorist Attack on Mumbai - Ripples reach the world

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Mumbai was hit once again by the terrorists when seven successive explosions took place in crowdy suburban train compartments in different locations around 6.30 pm IST on last Tuesday killing nearly two hundred innocent commuters and leaving hundreds of injured people. The entire country is standing by the side of the victims and a round-the-corner strong criticism for such a cowardish act and at the same time willingness to extend supports from countries like USA gives us few consolation.

Serial blast in Mumbai
It is hard to believe that any human being, society, organisation or government in this world will make innocent people as a soft-target to prove their existence and power, but surprisingly and sadly enough, this is exactly what is being done by the terrorists oflate quite frequently in different parts of the world.
Not only statesman like Hon’ble PM, Sir M.M.Singh has given a call to the nation saying “I urge people to remain calm, not to believe rumors and carry on their activity normally” there are many other common people who has come forward to strike back and marking it as “an act of cowards”.

The evil effect of such an act for obvious reason is the gross loss of many lives, properties and a short existent distraction from routine activities. But at the same time this will unite the entire world, the human race as a whole to become more resilient and united in fighting against such attactk.
I suppose no religion, race, caste and creed has ever been supportive towards terrorism, it is rather a social stigma that this very civilised human race that gave birth to people like Mother Teresea, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, and many more people who has exhibited deep concern for the development of human race, is also producing people with evil intention who aim to destroy this mankind.

Not quite sure what purpose such mass-killing serves, it would have been better if the terrorist groups would come up across the table in open front to place their protests and demands before the people or appropriate authorities. After all, these innocent commuters would know really little or nothing about the demands/agitations for which they were made the target.

The government of India has all along been sincere and commited to protect the life and property of this country from terrorist attacks in the form of tightening security measures and mobilising the Intelligence Departments , still it is a real challenge for the Government to employ adequate protection for 110 Crore odd population. We get news related to explossives like RDX siezer quite frequently, still , it is really difficult to eliminate the possibility of a new attack in near future.
However, really i may not be the right person to suggest but what i feel is that educating people to fight against terrorism may save them from attacks. A nation wide sustained campaign upto the grass-root level regarding detection and identification of explossives and Dos and Do Nots may provide a stronger protection.
People of this nation is well aware of the impending danger due to such attacks and even then, they keep maintaining their normal activity. Even if you take a tour to Mumbai today you will probably find no trace of that hit anywhere, it is as busy and active as it was couple of days ago with schools and colleges open, people are attending their jobs and somehow they might have accepted and understood the fact this these are mere stray events that will come up at times and there is nothing to fear or nothing to become too much worried about such cowardish act, entrusting the task of fighting against the terrorists to the Administration in totality.
This is the real power, the mind-power of common people which is the primary cause of existence of this human race till date.
India is safe, we, the Indians are safe as well, only thing is that the fight against evil-spirit is yet not over.
