A new meta tag - NOODP

Is not Google showing its some sort of distrust on ODPs

Earlier sometimes it used information available in the ODP to get the description of your webpages. And you could do little about that. Particularly it is not good to see the same old description when you continue to change the content of your webpages because that is the information still sticking in the ODP. It has been discussed a lot of time in different forums that ODPs do not update or refresh as frequently as the websites listed thereon change.
But now you can easily tell the crawler not to use the information from ODP.
META NAME=”ROBOTS” CONTENT=”NOODP”

To specifically direct GoogleBOT, you need to use a meta tag like

META NAME=”GOOGLEBOT” CONTENT=”NOODP”

Though it appears that Google will continue to use description from ODP by default.

I followed a thread on WPW about this.
I love it that this has finally been allowed to happen.
