Editing the settings of Frontpage of a Mambo site has never been easy as the front page manager does not give you the opportunity to do so. Using frontpage manager you can hardly publish / unpublish the content-items in the front page or set the orders in which they apprear in the front page. But the setting likes number of content-items to be displayed in the frontpage, or content-items per row to be displayed in your home page can not be changed using the frontpage manager.So i searched the net and got to links that tell us specifically what need be done to edit the settings of your home page.

The links cited atop are enough but here is a quick quide of how to do the same.

Step: 1 - Log on to Mambo Administrative Control Panel.

Step:2 - Click Menu -> Mainmenu

The manu manager opens the mainmanu items for you to edit.
Step:3 - Click Home ( The first menu item by default)

A page opens ” EDIT MENU ITEM :: Component ( Frontpage)

Step:4 - Now tweak with the parameters to edit the settings.

Like : Setting #intro = 10 will display introduction of ten items in the frontpage ( home page)

Setting Columns = 3 will display three columns per row (i.e. three content items per row )

During my tiny presence in the internet, i have found the hottest discussions that go on and on among the webmasters’ community is the Google search. The cause is simple to understand but the effect is prolonged.

The same issue comes up in the discussion over and over againg. Just now, i was going through a thread on content duplication as posted in WPW.
So far as my thought goes, it may be identified , if anyone copies one or more paragraph of a page, or a complete webpage containing few hundreds of words from another website and paste it unaltered in his own webpage.

Pages from the same website, if contains the same content ( like printer friendly version of a webpage) should be restricted from the access of the GoogleBOT by using robots.txt file.

You may need to redirect the www version to the non-www version or vice-versa of your webpages using HTTP REDIRECTs to avoid a penalty .

A one or two liner match is quite common for describing product features of a certain product, so such act, is more likely to be ignored by the search engine spiders. For example, features of a particular model of NOKIA MOBILE HANDSET can hardly vary from one site to the other, and BOTs do understand that. So you can see lots of pages containing the same, or nearly same content in the SERPs, if you search for that particular model.

This is a good tool that may assist to detect content duplication.

Like any other site in the internet, an affiliate site also requires visitors, the more the better . However, the organic search engine visitors are the best source of getting visitors in the internet, so, your site should be optimised to get some visitors from the search engines and mind you, it is more difficult than optimising a site which does not contain affiliate link.

2) The value-addition may be ensured in another way and an example may illustrate that. For selling a product like care bear party supplies, a detailed instruction on “how to decorate the venue on that theme”, is definitely going to add certain value, and which in turn, may generate good search engine traffic. If you place a text /banner containing affiliate link in such a page, it is definitely going to yield better result, both in terms of search engine traffic and also in terms of the conversion rate.

The focus of such a site should not be promotional, but rather, should be informative.

For markeing and promoting such a site, you need to be creative, and need to have an extenssive knowledge on that subject so that you can write a number of informative articles based on that product. Also you need to discuss with the merchants regarding issues like site promotion, conversion rate and latest product/price updates.

Promoting an affiliate site has never been easy, however, if it is developed with due focus, care and attention, it is definitely going to give you a great reward.
